COME TO GROUNDSWELL!

An annual coming together of people impacted by, invested in and working on migration in India

Dehradun | June 1-3

Groundswell is a celebration of solutions. The event aims to foster a community of like-minded people and organisations to work towards policy inclusion of migrants, building safer migration and workplace practices with an aim to create a more equitable space for them.

Curated by The Migration Story, India’s only newsroom reporting on the country’s vast migrant population, the first edition of Groundswell will be in Dehradun. With a focus on the mountain state, where frequent disasters have fuelled migration, the event will bring attention to similar challenges that communities across India face and the many solutions emerging from startups, nonprofits, think-tanks, policymakers and people themselves.

The event kickstarts with a journalism training session for a cohort of 10 women journalists. The first Groundswell grants will also be awarded here for three stellar pitches.

The two-day event on June 2 and 3 will see sessions that are discussion-led and focus on women-led and ground-up climate movements, initiatives to count a scattered workforce and . It will highlight the cultural nuances of a population on the move for work with screenings, a photo exhibition and cultural evenings.

Groundswell will give migrants a platform to directly tell their stories, negotiate the change they want, while giving other participants an opportunity to gain fresh perspectives.

We believe that this inaugural event can add a valuable and actionable element to India’s (and Uttarakhand’s) initiatives towards Sustainable Goals, Targets and Indicators.
