The Migration Story and Climate Narrative Hub anchored by Dasra are organizing a two-day, in-person workshop for regional journalists in Nagpur that seeks to strengthen conservation reporting by shifting the lens from conflict to community wisdom and local solutions. This workshop will focus on building narratives that highlight coexistence, amplify the voices of forest-dwelling communities, and address conservation challenges for species that rarely make headlines.

Workshop Objective

• Equip journalists with multimedia tools to report on conservation beyond conflict-driven narratives.

• Highlight community-based knowledge, practices, and solutions to human-wildlife interactions.

• Enhance skills for crafting strong story pitches for publication.

• Build sustained reporting capacity through mentorship and field-based learning. 

Workshop Details

• Dates: Dec 17-18

• Location: Nagpur

• Format: Two-day in-person workshop, including a field visit

• Follow-up Mentorship: Five selected journalists from the cohort will receive three-month mentorship on reporting, writing and avenues to publish and a story grant.

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is open to:

• Early to mid-career journalists (print, digital, photo, video) based in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh

• Reporters with an interest in environmental, rural, or community issues.

• Journalists eager to strengthen their storytelling on conservation and explore solutions-focused reporting and have the willingness to team up with fellow journalists to tell these stories

Selection and Support

• Selected participants will be provided with travel and accommodation support.

• Journalists will gain access to mentorship, field exposure, editorial feedback and visual storytelling techniques from experienced professionals.

• The workshop will support collaborations between journalists

• Two published samples of work (links or scanned copies).

• A brief CV (maximum 2 pages).
